| The Pender Islands are made up of North and South Pender Island, joined by a short one-lane bridge. Both islands are home to a number of talented artists, and are known for their community theatre, their arts activities, their fall fair, their crafts and their island-grown festivals, of which the New Year’s Lantern Festival is one. Amenities include restaurants, galleries, grocery and drug stores, bakery, medical services, RCMP, golf and Frisbee golf courses, tennis courts and several specialty coffee and gift stores. Poet’s Cove Resort and Spa on South Pender offers kayaking and canoeing adventures and has a public swimming pool. | South Pender Island in particular is known for its peaceful hiking trails and beautiful beaches – the Mount Norman Hike (mentioned above) and the Beaumont Marine Park Hike are two of the best. Favorite beaches include Mortimer Spit, Gowlland Point, Craddock Road and the Brook’s Point conservation area. Thieves Bay Marina is well-known for its spectacular sunsets and in the summer is a popular spot to watch for killer whales – a number of our guests have been fortunate enough to enjoy this experience. |
