Hope Bay, North Pender Island

The picturesque community of Hope Bay is a special place for many of the people on Pender Island. It’s history goes back 100 years or so (the original Hope Bay Store was built in 1905) with a general store, local farming and logging being a few of the activities taking place. Stories of bootlegging are common and until 1966 Hope Bay was used for ferry traffic. Unfortunately the original store was lost to a fire in 1998. A new store was eventually built being finished after a long haul in 2005. Presently the complex houses numerous businesses.
