British Columbia's
Gulf Islands are rich in heritage, absolutely beautiful and one
of the best areas to "get away from it all" for nature
lovers, boaters, artists and photographers. While we can't
recommend every book about this area, most of what is available
is well written and many feature stunning photography and art.
We hope you can find something of interest from our links below
but feel free to search as well. This is paradise and and the
commitment made by our writers and authors shows this.
General Gulf Island
books can be found here

British Columbia provides a
backdrop for amazing photography. One of our best
photographers is Graham Osborne. Interested in Killer Whales?
Take a look at the excellent work of Graeme Ellis. If you need an
excuse to come out to BC do yourself a favour and purchase a
book by one of these fine photographers. Bring lots of film as
well.

If you are looking for a little adventure, Maria Coffey and
Dag Goering can give you the ultimate armchair adventure of the
British Columbia Coast. Vision of the Wild: A voyage by
kayak around Vancouver Island will have you smelling the salt
air. Another book I have just finished reading, Kevin Patterson's
The
Water In Between: while not directly related to the Gulf Islands
is a great read for
anyone who has ever had the thought of heading offshore
solo. Victoria to Tahiti with little experience. Well
written and full of thoughtful insight, this book provides more
than just a sailing journey.

Robert Bateman
Robert Bateman has long been considered one of Canada's
finest wildlife painters. Having travelled around the
world from Africa to North America he calls Salt Spring Island his
home. Not a bad decision considering our ideal Mediterranean climate and
the beautiful, smog free and unspoiled countryside |

A few excellent
guidebooks are available for this area. One of
the most popular is British Columbia's Gulf Islands: Afoot &
Afloat. Also take a look at Randel

The native culture of British Columbia has a fascinating
history. Pender's Andrea Spalding and
Victor Reece have
collaborated on a wonderful children's book, Solomon's
Tree.
Beautifully illustrated by Janet
Wilson, this is a must read for
anyone, regardless of age.
